The Haiti Mission Service Orphange of LeJeune is headed by Pastor Geordany Joseph. The WFC has worked with Pastor Geordany on a
couple of projects during the last couple of years, and we have found him
to be dedicated and effective. A WFC staffer and a
volunteer physician visited Pastor Geordany for a few days in mid-February,
2010, and they recommended that the WFC assist this orphanage in expanding
capacity to handle an increased number of orphans.
Pastor Geordany Joseph heads the orphanage,
15 churches, each with one pastor and five preachers, 5,000 church
members,
plus five schools with 25 teachers and 800 students, giving a ratio
of one teacher to 32 students. They wish to care for many more Haitian orphanes--the future of their country.
Before the January
earthquake,
this orphanage had about 20 children with very adequate facilities. they now have 34 children crammed into close quarters. They plan to grow to having 60 children (3 years old and up), which will be
possible
by building a second floor on the current two-year-old dormitory and
dining
hall.
Costs:The orphanage needs at least $30,000 to
expand the building and secure the existing facility with several new doors and
gates:$1,000. (Most of the construction will involve free labor from church members.) In addition, they need two new staffers to
help care for the children—costing about $3,100 for one year.Add
miscellaneous supplies and food:$1,400.Total
needed immediately:$35,500. This is a cost of only $875 per child.
In addition, we are asking our
Non-Governmental Organization partners to assist the private school, which
needs books and supplies for 1,000 students.
