Volunteer Opportunities

There are many ways you can help the Volunteer Farm as a volunteer.


We host volunteers at the Shenandoah Farm near Woodstock from 8 a.m. through noon Mondays through Saturdays, and we are closed Sundays for a Day of Rest. There are several reasons we try to adhere to those hours. In the summer, the afternoon is the hottest part of the day. In addition, the farm manager needs to have time to work in the field and, due to safety reasons, he cannot run some of the equipment with volunteers in the field.

Please be understanding of the fact that, while we can generally predict what we will be doing at certain times during the year, agriculture is very dependent on the weather and the status in the fields. Ultimately the decision of the tasks that are done each day is up to the farm manager, whose first responsibility is ensuring a harvest that will feed the most people.

We can host any number of people in the fields (up to 100 easily, and we have had more than 300 at a time) and no more than five in the office when we are working on a mailing. We are limited to only one person at a time when doing data entry.

Each person in your group must have a signed Liability Waiver to work on the farm.  If anyone 18 or under will not be accompanied by a parent or guardian on the day of the visit, please download the form at the left and have the youngster bring the signed waiver to the farm.
